American Airlines is testing Google Assistant Interpreter for customer service. The service is already in testing at Los Angeles LAX Airport. Introduced last year at CES 2019, Interpreter Mode For Google Assistant lets someone say something in one language and have it translated into another language.
American Airlines announced at CES 2020 the airline is testing Interpreter Mode at airport lounges to help their employees communicate better with travelers who speak different languages, and its Premium Customer Service representatives will be able to use Interpreter Mode on Google Nest Hubs.
Currently, Interpreter Mode can translate 29 languages including Arabic, Chinese (Mandarin), Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hindi, Hungarian, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Slovak, Spanish, Swedish, Thai, Turkish, Ukrainian, and Vietnamese.
“The science fiction universal translator is now science fact,” said Maya Leibman, American’s Chief Information Officer. “Incorporating technology like the Google Assistant’s interpreter mode will help us break down barriers, provide a worry-free travel experience and make travel more accessible to all.”
